Coverage limits
Limits decide what a claim actually pays. Two plans with similar monthly prices can pay very differently on a large repair, so compare these numbers and not only the price.
The limits to compare
- Service fee or deductible. What you pay each repair visit or each claim, depending on the plan.
- Per-item limit. The most the plan pays for one covered item.
- Per-claim limit. The most paid on a single claim.
- Total limit. The most paid across the contract term, which may be tied to a set dollar amount.
- Labor rate. Some plans cap the hourly labor rate they will pay.
- Extra costs. How permits, haul-away, code upgrades and access to a hidden failure are treated.
Why this matters
A limit is not a flaw. It is part of how the plan is priced. It becomes a problem when it is not noticed until a claim. Your quote lists the numbers for the plan you are considering.
